Michel Bertrand - All the things you didn't necessarily want to know about me

I'm the Web Optimization Architect for Transat.

I have a background in Mechanical Engineering, with a Masters in Information Systems from the École Polytechnique de Montréal.

I was an IBMer for 13 years. On the internet since we had to connect using a 1200 baud modem.

I’m currently working at Transat A.T. in the Direction des systèmes informatiques.
My role consists of watching for new technology trends, and advising the business and IT groups on their applications to help reach our business goals. Some of my responsibilities include:

  • Search Engine Optimization
  • Web Analytics
  • Website Performance
  • Social Marketing
  • Mobile Apps
  • Business Analysis
  • Web Architecture

So in effect, I do a whole bunch of stuff that not a whole lot of people were doing before I came here, and can’t pretend to be the Grand Pooh-Bah of them all , but I’m having a lot of fun trying…

When I’m not in front of a computer, you can probably find me:

Grimselpass road sign at the summit of the climb
- if it’s summer: on a bike, climbing some hill in Tuscany or Provence, Switzerland or Austria, or, unfortunately more often, trying to avoid potholes if I’m riding here on our lovely Quebec roads. Or on the water sailing or windsurfing.

- if it’s winter: carving the ice on a pair of GS skis at Tremblant – have to make something out of these Quebec winters!

Now, I mostly use this website to experiment with different tools I want to try out, so things may change without warning! For example right now I'm tooting my own horn with the new Google +1 button, the effect of which you can see on my Google Profile page.
